Personal information

Hector M. Flores was born in Mexico, city. His father ran a stained glass studio and Flores has been working with glass since he was a child. He began to work on cut, carved and polished sculptures following the Czech school. Flores has been teaching assistant in Mexico and at Pilchuck Glass School (USA) He have had some solo and group exhibitions in Mexico and USA. His work is in public and private collections, including those of the Monterrey Glass Museum in Mexico and Eskisehir Glass Museum in Turkey.

Hector M. Flores Statement

My work in glass sculpture is based on the abstraction of some issues more often considered complex or mystical, found in the physical order in the nature, as the phenomena occurring in outer space or ancient ideas that inhabit the imagination of man expressed in a playful way in a symbiosis of light and shadow that invite the viewer, feeding his fascination with optical phenomena, to question, and intuitively create their own answers in a metaphoric and imaginative way. In my work I use a subtle blend of seemingly opposing materials such as: glass, marble and metals.
